“The Jazz Singer “plays at Museum Bandstand

Soweto Kinch, the British Jazz musician, saxophonist and MC performed live with Nadaswara maestro Sashikumar at the Museum bandstand yesterday (Dec 06). Kinch, who is an award winning musician, was present in the session where his band with the organizers of IFFK interacted with the public.
Soweto Kinch and his band are playing the live orchestra for the Alfred Hitchcock movie ‘The Ring’. The film will be screened as the inaugural film of the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala, today (Dec 07) at Nishagandhi.
Soweto said that he was surprised to hear the Nadaswara being performed so well and added that he was practicing the saxophone for around 25 years and still feel great playing it. He, in reply to KSCA Chairman  Priyadarshan’s question, told that the music for ‘The Ring’ contains influences the jazz age (in which the film is set) and modern music because he wanted to have his own stamp in the music.
The band includes Soweto Kinch who has scored composed the music, Double bass by Karl Rashid – Abel, piano by Robert Mitchell, Jay Phelps who plays the trumpet and Paul Booth who is doing the Clarinet and Sax.
The team is accompanied by event manager Paula Van Hagen and tour manager Peter Conway. The meeting was co ordinate by Malayalam director T K Rajeev Kumar. Priyadarshan, Chairman – Kerala Chalachithra Academy Beena Paul – Artistic Director IFFK, Joshy Mathew and various film, media personalities were present.
